Since studying with the likes of Stan Sulzmann and Dave Liebman, Ingrid Laubrock has forged an enviable reputation on the cutting edge jazz scene. A member of London’s hothouse F-ire Collective and tipped by The Guardian as ‘one to watch’ in 2007, she returned to Cheltenham with the world premiere of her Jerwood Jazz Generation commission.
Exploiting the different textures afforded by the unusual instrumentation, her nonet performed forward-thinking improvisation entwined with structured ‘cool’ jazz passages and exhilarating new music.
Press reviews and comments
“Laubrock shows an inextinguishable curiosity, testing stylistic boundaries both as composer and interpreter.”
BBC Music
“Her approach carries traces of such diverse players as Coltrane, Konitz and David S. Ware. But it is ultimately entirely her own.”

"The Festival's Jerwood strand as usual gace UK artists a chance to shine, with Ingrid Laubrock's nonet performing a special commission with an unusual band featuring two pianists."

What makes Ingrid Laubrock part of our Jerwood Jazz Generation
“I heard that Ingrid had won a grant from the Arts Foundation to go and study composition with the American pianist and composer Myra Melford. I have always been a big fan of Myra's music and decided immediately that I wanted to give Ingrid the opportunity to develop the resulting compositions for live performance at Cheltenham. Ingrid has been a firm favourite at Cheltenham in the last two years with her own quintet and with the Brazilian guitarist Guinga and singer Mônica Vasconcelos.”
