HSBC Cheltenham Jazz Festival 29 April - 5 May 2008
Dave Smith’s Outhouse Ruhabi
Dave Smith returns to Cheltenham with an exciting new ensemble that mixes the sounds of contemporary jazz with the tribal West African groove of the Sabar drum. Ruhabi is the result of a new collaboration between the diverse musical personalities of Outhouse, members of London's LOOP collective, and five traditional Gambian Wolof drummers. Expect raw, hypnotic grooves and free-flowing improvisation.
Outhouse Ruhabi feature on the BBC Africa on your street site, 'a unique Anglo-Gambian project where British Jazz improvisation meets the Wolof groove of the Sabar drum'.
